Holidays creeping closer

I can already feel it. Holiday depression and a lonely feeling. I'm isolated away from those I care about the most. Thanksgiving and Christmas here might be tough. Is it weird that I liked climbing on my roof to put up Christmas lights? No clue if I can find lights for decorating here. Off to TaoBao (China's version of Amazon).

There's a Thanksgiving event coming up next week on Friday the 25th. We have a professional development day until 1:00pm, and then a Thanksgiving meal. The school is supplying Turkeys and some other items, but they're asking staff to bring a item too. I would like to make an apple pie, but I don't know if I can find all the ingredients. After doing some online shopping I dropped about $150USD for supplies and pie making stuff. This is going to be one hell of a pie. At least future pies won't cost so much because I won't have to buy measuring spoons, a pie plate, spices, etc.

In other news I'm thinking I might be able to get to Beijing during my break in January. President Xi and the government just announced the loosening of some Covid quarantine rules. They also announced that more flights will be coming into China. I'm already noticing a trend in American media. Good news here doesn't make it onto the front page there, only items that make Xi look like an evil dictator. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of the guy, and I do think he's bordering on dictator status, but it won't make me pick sides when I think both sides are in the wrong.

I was thinking that shipping some gifts from here back to the states for Christmas was in the cards. Maybe. Shipping costs are looking prohibitive. I guess if I'm willing to spend that on a pie...

FriendsGiving comes to mind. $150 on an apple pie... wow! That is going to be one helluva pie! Weird how some things are amazingly cheap and other things are amazingly expensive. If you travel over the holidays be sure to give yourself ample time for testing and the likely quarantine time.

Old song comes to mind, Dave. Something like if you can’t be with the ones you love, love the ones you’re with. Sounds like you have a great supportive school community around. Engage & immerse - create & discover new Holiday experiences & memories with your peers & their families.

With your personality, I’m optimistic you’ll be warmly embraced & rewarded for your efforts.

Good advice. Thanks, Mike. There's a lot of us in the same situation. I think we will likely cling to each other a bit.
