Lantern festival

The fifteenth day of the spring festival (Chinese New Year) is called the lantern festival. That's supposed to be on Sunday February 5th, but we're a school so for convenience these things get moved to a Friday. Today we had a traditional lion and dragon dance at the start of the school day.

There are lanterns all around school that have small notes attached to the bottom. The notes are good wishes for the new year of the rabbit.

It's also common for people to wear traditional clothing on this day. Lots of red everywhere. For the younger grades most kids wear some form of traditional garb.

We also had a group of students parade around campus today at the end of the day.

Lastly, this coming Sunday is the actual day of the lantern festival. There's a couple of fireworks displays in the city. Might try to get to at least one of those.
